AWARDS

The Michigan Emergency Management Association (MEMA) Annual Awards Program is designed to recognize individuals and communities who have embraced MEMA’s mission. The purpose of each award is to recognize exemplary performance in the award category.

The award definition for “Exemplary” is as follows: The nominee has demonstrated a level of excellence or achievement that is above and beyond what is considered the normal of duties of the candidate. All awards are based on outstanding accomplishments, innovative concepts, creative approaches, professionalism, and/or community impact.

All award nominations should provide an articulated representation of the candidate’s efforts, accomplishments and/or achievements by providing specific and verifiable details that demonstrate exemplary service in the award category during the year (October 31, 2016-September 20, 2017). Nominations are accepted throughout the year.

No single individual is eligible to receive more than one award in a single award year. MEMA member in “Good Standing” means that their annual dues have been received and processed by the treasurer.

Award Details:
Local Emergency Management Coordinator (< & >60,000): Must be a MEMA member in good standing. The candidate will have demonstrated exemplary performance as indicated by a level of excellence or achievement that is above and beyond what is considered the normal duties of the candidate. Note: The term “Coordinator” is defined from P.A. 390 Section 30.409 (1).

Distinguished Service Award: Must be a MEMA member in good standing and from any emergency management or response discipline. (Emergency Management Coordinators are not eligible for this award). The candidate will have demonstrated exemplary performance as indicated by a level of excellence or achievement that is above and beyond what is considered the normal duties of the candidate.

Volunteer of the Year (MEMA membership is not required): The outstanding Volunteer of the Year award showcases a person who has demonstrated exemplary performance and achievement through dedication and initiatives that have positively impacted their community’s emergency management efforts and/or capabilities through volunteer service.

Healthcare/ Public Health Preparedness Award: Must be a MEMA member in good standing. The nominee may be from any healthcare/ public health discipline. Examples of preparedness activities include coordination of public health exercises, providing responder training & education, coordinating & developing public health planning projects, etc. The candidate will have demonstrated exemplary performance as indicated by a level of excellence or achievement that is above and beyond what is considered the normal duties of the candidate.
